Tesmet joins STEP-UP as a key partner in major Norwegian-funded innovation initiative
Tesmet is proud to announce its participation as a key partner in the STEP-UP project, recently selected for grant signature. Funded by Innovation Norway and Norges Forskningsråd, STEP-UP is a large-scale innovation initiative aiming to establish multiple new value chains and applications for anorthosite rock. The project seeks to integrate this Norwegian rock and its derivatives into national and international industries, minimizing environmental impact while supporting sustainable economic growth.
STEP-UP brings together 14 partners from 6 countries and 3 continents, including 9 companies and 5 research organizations, over a 3-year timeline with a total budget of ~60 MNOK (~€5,5M), combining grant funding with private contributions from industry. The initiative includes construction and R&D campaigns of two facilities for different anorthosite processing technologies and the development of innovations from laboratory to pilot and industrial scale. Environmental and social sustainability are central to the project, alongside specialized work in developing new industrial applications for anorthosite.
Tesmet, in collaboration with SuMaTechs, will play a critical role in implementing SuMaTechs´ anorthosite processing technology at kilo-scale in Greece, leveraging decades of experience in aluminosilicate processing and valorization. The project will also explore several other innovative applications for anorthosite derivatives across industries, including metals and minerals, space R&D, and other strategic sectors.
Tesmet is honored to contribute to one of the most ambitious European research initiatives in the Raw Materials ecosystem, collaborating with leading partners such as Gudvangen Stein AS, SuMaTechs, Norsk Hydro, Heidelberg Materials, NTNU, SINTEF, Mintek, and others.
