Magdalini Stavrianou
My name is Magdalini Stavrianou and I graduated from the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) in 2021 with a degree in Mining and Metallurgical Engineering. During my undergraduate studies, I specialized in hydrometallurgical processes, particularly researching acid leaching of Bauxite Residue (Grey Mud) to extract Scandium and other Rare Earth Elements (REEs). After graduation, I worked at Mathios Refractories as a Quality Control and Research & Innovation Engineer at the Ritsona plant. This role provided my first opportunity to apply both my metallurgical and organizational skills in an industrial setting, which I found deeply rewarding. A year later, I transitioned to the role of Sales Engineer at KIMI SA, a renowned workshop in Perama. Over my two years there, I gained valuable insights into business operations while honing my managerial, communication, time management, and prioritization skills, all while expanding my mechanical knowledge.
However, my passion for metallurgy ultimately led me back to research, and I am now proud to be part of the TeSMET research team at NTUA. My current research primarily focuses on pyrometallurgical processing, with additional involvement in inorganic polymers.
Being part of the Tesmet team allows me to pursue my passion for metallurgy while advancing my engineering expertise. In more detail, the projects we are working on encourage innovation and creative problem-solving, giving me the freedom to contribute ideas and grow as a researcher. Moreover, being a team player by nature, I value the spirit of collaboration in our group and the fact that I am constantly motivated to stay up to date in my field. Finally, I have always been a strong advocate for environmental sustainability, and I find it especially fulfilling that our team prioritizes sustainable industrial practices.
