SCALE-UP - Scaling up scandium production from European Bauxite Residue

Goal

Following the successful conclusion of SCALE, SCALE-Up pursues the commercialization of the Sc production value chain from Bauxite Residue (BR) by optimizing the flowsheet developed in SCALE and integrate it with the ScaVanger flowsheet for Sc refining. The final products produced (Sc2O3 and ScF3) will be either sold for SOFC production or used for AlSc master alloy production.

Our role

TeSMet taking advantage of its experience in Sc extraction, is performing hydrometallurgical work using multiple methods (Solution Recycling, Conventional precipitation, Electrohydrolysis), screening alternative ion-exchange resins for Sc extraction and producing at lab-scale Al-Sc alloy from ScF3. Finally, within the framework of SCALE-Up, it will organize a Summer School on Sc and other rare metal extraction from residues from Aluminium and TiO2 pigment production.
