RemovAL - Removing the waste streams from the primary Aluminium production and other metal sectors in Europe
Keywords: bauxite residue, alumina, REEs, iron production, waste valorization
Goal
The RemovAL Project aims to combine and advance the most promising technologies available for turning the waste streams of the primary aluminium industry into products that find application at:
- Well established markets (cement, lightweight aggregates, mineral wool)
- End-user industries (ferroalloys, cement raw materials, alumina, rutile, REE oxides, etc.)
- Specialized markets, as innovative products (soil stabilizer, new inorganic binders etc.)
Our role
The innovative technologies the TeSMet group is developing for RemovAL Project are:
- Developing integrated hydrometallurgical processes for the extraction of Al, Na, REE and Ti from slags produced after the smelting of BR
- Examining a microwave assisted pyrometallurgical process for raw material preparation and direct iron production from BR
- Performing exergy analysis for different industrial process options
Duration
From May 2018 to June 2023.
