ReActiv - Industrial Residue Activation for sustainable cement production
Keywords: sustainable, alumina, cement industry, bauxite residue, CO2 footprint, wastes
Goal
The Reactiv Project aims to create a novel sustainable symbiotic value chain and proposes a win-win scenario for the alumina and the cement production industry. The innovative Reactiv Project technologies, reduce wastes and CO2 emissions respectively by modifying the properties of Bauxite Residue (BR), transforming it into a reactive material suitable for new, low CO2 footprint, cement products.
Our role
TeSMeT is actively engaged in this project, performing research work on:
- Chemical and material characterization of BR samples
- Optimization of BR reductive smelting for the production of supplementary cementitious materials slag and cast iron or calcium aluminate slags for refractory applications.
- Optimization of BR de-alkalinisation in the alumina plant
Duration
From November 2020 to November 2024
