INCO-Piles-2020 - International consortium to recover CRMs from stockpiles/tailings targeting RIS
Keywords: CRMs, stockpiles, waste valorization, mining residuals
Goal
INCO-Piles was a project funded by EIT Raw Materials that aimed to sum up, establish and develop innovative technologies for the sustainable extraction of Critical Raw Materials (CRMs) from mining activities residuals. The project involved a comprehensive review of sampling and processing techniques, data collection and analysis from stockpiles in East and South East Europe and the Mediterranean, the valorization of a real application and the evaluation of economic profitability and environmental impact. The goal was to select game-changing techniques for minerals retreatment that could be scaled up in the future.
Our role
TeSMet had a leading role in desk studies on innovative technologies for sampling, sample analysis, and processing methods for recovering CRMs from mining activities residuals. Our group was involved in creating a list of potential stockpiles in the Balkans and guided preliminary characterization activities on the selected mineral residue site.
Duration
From January 2020 to December 2021.
