ENSUREAL - Integrated cross-sectorial approach for environmentally sustainable and resource-efficient alumina production

Goal
Ensureal is an H2020 project that examines a novel alumina production process, suitable for lower grade ores, while producing useful by-products, such as cast-iron (from the iron content of bauxite). The process eliminates the Bauxite Residue issue, as the residue of the novel leaching process is a material that can be marketed for fertilizer and/or soil improver.
Our role
TeSMeT Group is a research pillar for the project, responsible for:
- the hydrometallurgical processing and by-products’ recovery design
- examining the valorization of by-products and the production of high added value materials
